Things to do this Christmas in Manchester!
With our favourite festive season just around the corner, we’ve rounded up some of the best things to check out this Christmas in Manchester.
1.) The markets! Spread all across the city center, the Christmas Markets has something for everyone, from classic the bratwurst to unlimited choices of cheese – this year’s even has a mulled gin stall!
2.) Bar Hütte at Spinningfields is furnished with a warm, festive decor and completed with hot water bottles, heated lamps, Christmas lights and “carol-oke” machines! The drinks menu includes all the festive favourites, with the standout choice being the Gin Apple Winter Toddy and House Special – the Twisted Bombardino.
3.) From gifts that will keep your loved ones smiling, to experiences you’ll remember for years to come, we’d highly recommend a trip to the Manchester Craft & Design Centre. Younger visitors will be greeted with hand-sculpted swans, geese, French hens, calling birds and a partridge in a pear tree suspended from the ceiling in five giant gold rings, and mini-makers are invited to get creative with a free Christmas craft activity and make a decoration or photo frame.
4.) All aboard the East Lancashire Railway! What better way to kick off the festive celebration than visiting the East Lancshire Railway’s popular Santa Specials? A tradition for many families in the North West, the Santa Specials are sure to create memories which you and your family will share forever.
5.) Horrible Histories Horrible Christmas. From Victorian villains to Medieval monks, Puritan parties to Tudor treats, join The Lowry on a hair-raising adventure through the history of Christmas in the company of Charles Dickens, Oliver Cromwell, King Henry VIII, St Nicholas and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, as they all join forces to save the festive season.
6.) The Village Screen’ are hosting two pop up cinema events at the stunning, Grade II listed, Manchester Victoria Baths, screening the classic Christmas films, Home Alone and Elf. Both events will kick off with music by local DJs and street food by Dim Sum Su and Proove Pizza, plus a full stocked bar serving prosecco, wines and craft beers.
7.) If you’re looking for locally produced food and craft including jams, breads and homemade fudge as gifts for your loved ones, the Ramsbottom Farmers Market, which is held on the second Sunday of each month at Market Place and Ramsbottom Civic Hall, is worth a trip.
