Restoring Heritage at Willow Bank
October 15th, 2025
At Eccleston Homes, we believe that building new homes should go hand in hand with protecting the stories of the places we build in. Our Willow Bank development in Ramsbottom is a great example of this philosophy in action.
A Landmark Under Restoration
The tall brick chimney within the Willow Bank site is a visible reminder of Ramsbottom’s rich industrial past. To ensure it continues to stand as part of the town’s landscape, we’ve begun an 18-week programme of restoration with the specialist team at Rafferty Steeplejacks.
The work includes full repointing of the brickwork, weatherproofing, and capping the top to further protect it from the elements. These measures will help safeguard the structure for the future too.

Ramsbottom’s Industrial Story
Ramsbottom grew as a mill town during the Industrial Revolution, with paper and cotton mills shaping its character for centuries. The town’s skyline was once defined by chimneys such as this one, serving as symbols of community and industry.
As outlined in ‘this is rammy’s’ article about the history of Ramsbottom’s paper mills, the town’s paper-making industry dates back to the 18th century and was central to local life. By restoring the chimney at Willow Bank, we’re helping to preserve a small but important link to that proud past.
Willow Bank: A Place with Character
Set alongside the East Lancashire Railway and within easy reach of Ramsbottom’s independent cafés, shops and countryside walks, Willow Bank combines thoughtful, modern design with surroundings full of heritage and charm.
Our collection of 2, 3 and 4 bedroom homes offer open-plan living, energy efficiency and smart technology, but with a real sense of place. Restoring the chimney is part of our wider vision to ensure Willow Bank feels connected to Ramsbottom’s story, both old and new.
Looking Forward
For us, developments like Willow Bank are about more than bricks and mortar. They’re about creating homes where people can feel proud to live, homes that respect the character of their town, while providing all the comforts of modern living.
